When You Need to Be Away

Be sure to let us know.

Illness and Vacation

  • Volunteers all need to be away from time to time. We ask that you give us as much notice as possible for scheduled absences so we can be sure we have someone to manage your responsibilities while you are away. If you expect to be away for more than a couple of weeks, please let the Director of Volunteer Services know so that our records can reflect a leave of absence for you.
  • If you are ill and are not able to volunteer, please contact your volunteer site as early as possible to let them know you are not able to come in that day. All contact information is listed in the Volunteer Handbook.

Holidays

Family Service observes 9 holidays and many of our locations are closed on these days.  However, the Bucks County Emergency Homeless Shelter and our Contact call centers in Richboro and Wynnewood are open every day. We welcome your volunteering on holidays if you are able, and we also understand if you prefer to take the day off.

Inclement Weather

In the case of bad weather, safety is most important. Stay home if you aren’t comfortable being out in the weather. To learn if we’re open, call the number listed in your volunteer handbook. The shelter and some call centers will be open regardless of weather. Even if all offices are open, always use your best judgment as to whether or not it is safe to travel to your volunteer location. Be sure to notify your volunteer site if you are not able to come in for your scheduled shift.
