Volunteers are essential to fulfilling Family Service Association’s mission of strengthening individuals, families and children. Join our volunteer workforce and help ups make a difference in our community.
Family Service Association has a wide range of meaningful volunteer opportunities. We will work with you to find the best match between your interests and our needs. Orientation and training are provided.
Become a volunteer listener, answering calls from individuals with a wide range of needs and concerns. Volunteer listeners must complete 24 hours of classroom and 16 hours of supervised telephone training prior to volunteering alone in the phone room. Continuing education and supervision is provided. The next training class will be held on Tuesday evenings from August 6 through September 10. For more information, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Make a daily phone call from home, work or any convenient location to an older or disabled adult, helping to ensure the well-being of the individual you are calling. Training and continuing education are provided for all callers. For more information, contact email@example.com.
Communications and Marketing Assistant: Assist with creating and updating brochures, flyers and event marketing materials; update website; excellent computer skills needed; experience with publishing software will be very helpful for this position. Shifts: 2 days/week, for a total of 4 to 8 hours weekly, on weekdays
Speaker Series Coordinator, Older Adult Program: Working with a Family Service staff person, coordinate speaker schedules with older adult housing sites; assist in preparing flyers and brochures, assist with follow-up and reporting. This position will require organization, and comfort using telephone and email for communication. Shifts: 5 hours per week on weekdays
Filing Assistant: Assist Family Service staff members by filing a wide range of documents for different offices and departments throughout the agency. Accuracy is important. Shifts: 2 hours per week on weekdays.
General Office Assistant: The perfect office job for the person who likes variety. Duties will change from week to week, and can include data entry, photocopying, envelope stuffing, phone calling, envelope labeling, paper cutting, and more! Shifts: 3 hours per week on weekdays
Bucks County Emergency Homeless Shelter
Child Enrichment (Kidztime) Facilitator: With other volunteers, provide enrichment activities for children of varying ages. Activities may include arts & crafts, games, reading, music. The only limits are volunteer creativity, participant interest and shelter policies. Some supplies are available. Parents will participate with children. Shifts: 2 hours on Thursday evenings, school year (suitable for groups)
Gardeners & Landscape Assistants: Following landscape plan, plant, weed, water, mulch, install chicken wire fencing, remove stumps. Shifts: Flexible, weekly, monthly or one time only (some projects are suitable for groups)
Hospitality Assistant: Answer phones, greet visitors and residents, assist residents with requests for supplies. Shifts: daily 8am-noon; noon-4pm; 4pm-8pm
Kitchen Assistant: Assist in meal preparation, serving and cleanup. Hat or hairnet is required. Shifts: daily 10am-1pm; 4pm-6pm; weekends only 6:30am-9am (suitable for groups)

Déjà Vu Thrift Service Learning Center
Retail Operations Volunteer: Assist other volunteers with sorting, pricing and preparing donations for display; selling, and creating displays. Volunteers work alongside and interact regularly with clients of Deja Vu Thrift Service Learning Center. Service Learning Center clients are young adults with Asperger’s Syndrome the opportunity to participate in on-the-job-training. Shifts: 4 hour shifts Monday through Saturday, during store hours.

Become a Volunteer
Our volunteer application process includes the following steps, which will typically take three to six weeks to complete.

*In addition to the Volunteer Application, Contact Helpline volunteers must complete the Contact Helpline Supplemental Application and Reassurance program volunteers must complete the Reassurance Supplemental Application.
2. Meet with our volunteer coordinator or other Family Service staff member for about 30 minutes. You will be contacted to schedule an appointment once we have received you application.
3. Participate in a two-hour Family Service Volunteer Orientation.
4. Obtain and provide copies of required background clearances. All volunteers must submit a copy of their Pennsylvania Criminal History Record Check. Bucks County Emergency Homeless Shelter volunteers must also submit a copy of a Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance. Please note that the Criminal History Check must accompany requests for a child abuse clearance. Volunteers living outside the state of Pennsylvania must submit an FBI Background Check available through Cogent ID.
These background checks and clearances are required in order to minimize risk to the clients we serve, and to our volunteers and staff.
Please note that all residents and staff of the Bucks County Emergency Homeless Shelter must receive an annual influenza vaccine. By October 31 of each year, volunteers working in the shelter during the months of November through March must provide documentation that they, also, have received the vaccine. Requests for a waiver may be discussed with the volunteer coordinator.
