Every community needs a Center for Families, a place where people of all ages come to build their better tomorrow by building hope, confidence and trust.

Our new home is accessible, visible and community-oriented. It is a welcoming home for a multitude of community-based programs. It is a center that welcomes all who need us. It speaks volumes about respect for families and communities, understanding the issues they face, and offer confidence in their strength and potential.

The new facility improves FSA’s ability to provide significant and life-changing services to more than 6,00 children, men, and women in Bucks County.

By creating this multipurpose, community-friendly center, FSA continues to be a strong positive presence for our work helping to strengthen individuals, children, and families. By investing in this home for Family Service, you are investing in communities and families. The Building Better Tomorrows Campaign gives you and other concerned individuals, corporations and foundations an opportunity to have a lasting impact on our families, our communities, our county and our future.

6 Reasons the Community Needs A New Home
There are six important reasons why our community needs this comprehensive Center for Families:
    1. Mental illnesses rank first among illnesses that cause disability in the United States. The annual indirect economic cost of mental illness is estimated to be $79 billion. Most of that cost is attributed to loss of productivity in the workplace. Family Service will expand outreach for our mental health programs both to individuals and businesses. This program can help keep workers on the job and lead healthier lives.
    2. Over 40% of participants in Family Service programs are children. Children with social and emotional problems that go untreated have lower grades, higher failure rates, and are more likely to drop out of school prior to high school graduation. We can continue to grow our child and adolescent programs that have a successful history of improving students’ behaviors and school performance.
    3. In Bucks County, the rate of aging is twice that of the U.S. rate and we estimate that almost 15,000 older adults may need substance abuse services and 17,600 may need mental health treatment in the near future. The Older Adult Program helps individuals live successfully in the community, reducing the need for expensive residential care and decreasing the burden on Medicare and Medicaid.
    4. The HIV/AIDS epidemic is not over. Teenagers, women and older adults are among those whose rate of infection is increasing. Family Service links people with medical care and related services that improve their quality of life.
    5. Families who want to leave the welfare system can’t always do it alone. They need help with things like job readiness training and obtaining transportation to join the economic mainstream community. Self-sufficiency programs will be expanded to help people rely less on costly government programs and more on themselves.
    6. The best way to provide highly effective counseling and supportive services to individuals and families is through a licensed and accredited organization that brings programs into the community to change lives. In Bucks County that is Family Service Association.
